ARTIST PROFILE

Matthew Weatherstone

Matthew Weatherstone's work exhibits an endless fascination with the experience and understanding of light, colour and darkness. His works are an inquiry of drama and subtlety, examining the delicate shifts of tone and hue that underlie our perception of the natural world.

His determinedly wrought artworks are drawn from perpetual contemplation, ruminating on ideas from immersion in place and expanse, to the documentation of personal and collective experience.

Light and colour are quickly yet carefully captured in studies; form and detail are observed and rendered in exploratory sketches before finally, with deliberate arrangement and composition, the artworks themselves gradually take form and emerge.
